Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary general Wilson Sossion has resigned ahead of the union’s elections scheduled for tomorrow.
Sossion says that his resignation comes in the interest of KNUT, its membership and leaders after unending wrangles with teachers employer Teachers Service Commission.
According to Sossion, he hopes his resignation will see TSC release union dues to the teachers union.
“There have always been argument that for as long as Sossion stays, the government will not release the union dues,” said Sossion.
According to Sossion, the union leaders have gone without salary for more that two years and medical cover.
“I salute the late executive secretary of KNUT Narok branch who died at home because of lack of a medical cover. And there are many of them and i urge them to stay resilient,” said Sossion.
Sossion’s resignation comes just a few days after he attempted to postpone the KNUT elections set for tomorrow.
His arch rival Collins Oyuu had however urged him to step down if he was not ready for elections.
“Postponement of election is not true our brother is just playing politics, the process of conducting elections was planned when Sossion himself was there by the National executive council and we were shocked to learn that he advised the ministry of health otherwise ..if at all Sossion is not ready for this elections let him quit peacefully,” Oyuu said.
