It’s All Systems go for WRC Safari Rally

WRC Safari Rally is set to return to Kenyan soil after 19 year absence and every stakeholder involved is relishing at the prospects about the success of the championship.

For nearly two decades the World Rally Championship crown has been missing a gem, but this week, it’s back.

The last time this rally was on of the WRC calendar was 2002. That year Apple released a second generation iPod with 20GB for people to fill with Justin Timberlake. Or Britney. Or both. And Colin McRae won the Safari Rally in a Ford Focus RS WRC.

According to one top participants In the competition ,Thierry Neuville: “I think everyone is excited to have Safari Rally Kenya on the calendar. I have heard stories from drivers who have had the chance to go there in the past, who have described the adventure they lived at the time.

” It will be a different experience for us, as the rallying has evolved over time. I don’t know what is waiting for us, but I hope to come back with a big trophy. We’ll be seeing zebras, elephants and giraffes – it is going to be fun.”he noted.

Safari Rally Kenya has changed considerably. Gone are the days of racing on open roads, when dodging oncoming traffic was as much part of the event as the giraffes and elephants. This week’s sixth round of the World Rally Championship is entirely familiar in format to the five events proceeding it this year.

After almost 20 years, Safari Rally Kenya returns to the World Rally Championship this weekend and the roads north of Nairobi are primed, ready, waiting and completely alien to today’s rallying elite.

Full coverage from Safari Rally Kenya will be aired live and exclusive on KBC Channel One and this will include every stage broadcast as it happens as well as key interviews, features and expert analysis from the service park.
