Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has finally bowed down to pressure after withdrawing the letter that revoked the appointment of Prof Stephen Kiama as UON VC.
Reports indicate that Magoha opted to withdraw the letter revoking Kiama’s appointment after agreeing on an out of court settlement with the new VC.
Magoha had revoked the appointment of Kiama as UON VC after his appointment was announced by UON council chair Julia Ojiambo.
The CS claimed that the right procedures were not followed in appointing the Vice-Chancellor. He went ahead to dissolve the Julia Ojiambo led UON council and reinstated Prof Mbeche to serve in an acting capacity as the VC until an amicable solution was found.
However, Magoha’s move was short-lived after the courts thwarted his move. The court allowed Prof Kiama to discharge his duties as the new VC of the University of Nairobi.
