Liverpool star Sadio Mane is 2019’s African footballer of the year.
Mane was crowned the African footballer of the year for the first time, in a colourful CAF award ceremony held on Tuesday evening in Cairo, Egypt.
The 27 years old Senegalese managed to edge out his close rivals Mohammed Salah and Riyad Mahrez to win the decorated award.
“Football is my job, I love it. I am really happy and proud to receive this award. I would really like to thank all the Senegalese people, my Senegal coach Aliou Cisse and all my Liverpool teammates,” said Mane after receiving the award.
2019 was undoubtedly Sadio Mane’s beat year. He won the Premier League Golden Boot award, won the Champions League, Uefa Super Cup and Fifa World Cup with Liverpool.
The CAF African Footballer of the year award was previously won by Mane’s Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah in 2017 and 2018.
Mane becomes the second Senegalese to win the award after El Hadji Diouf in 2001.
